A magical place in a private valley one mile from the ocean where five campsites are distanced around four acres in a dog-friendly campus where solitude and outdoor adventures meet comfort and convenience. Three sites have tents with queen-sized inflated mattresses; two await your own gear. All five have firepits and free firewood.

We call it “Wuss Camp” because you can focus on the fun of outdoor tent camping, and still have a few comfortable amenities: Potable artesian spring water throughout site, hot showers, Starlink internet, free firewood, options for homemade soup, fruit cobbler, “desperado dinners,” morning coffee and fresh baguettes—plus plenty of room (acres of woods and stream) for the kids and dogs to roam — all just one mile from the ocean and five minutes from charming Victorian Ferndale, the historic heart of Humboldt County’s Redwoods. Think: hiking, shopping, foraging, beachcombing, birdwatching—or resting, reading, napping in a very quiet place with no ambient light or sound. Oh, and safe. In our farmhouse, we are on site 24/7.
What makes us special
Wuss Camp is situated in the meadows of an 80-acre private wild park land, including meadows, forests, a creek, and primitive, wooded hiking trails. Your guide is our wise and gentle concierge, Louie, a Queensland heeler/Aussie shepherd. In season, forage for wild chanterelles, view nesting great blue herons, listen to the hundreds varieties of local and migrating birds—wake and sleep to the roar of the ocean and the astonishing starry late night skies (no ambient light here!). The land embraces you. You are not a visitor, you are part of the family at Wuss Camp.
Prime location
We’re located on forested farmland a mile from the ocean in Humboldt’s scenic Eel River Valley. Few campsites in the area offer such easy access to the rugged Lost Coast; you can walk (or drive) from campdown the county road to Centerville Beach. And we’re conveniently situated near the charming historic town of Ferndale and California’s most famous redwood parks.
John’s hot, homemade baguettes are an “extra” … and is delivered right out of the oven to our campsite in the morning.

Kid & pet friendly
Our property is a safe place for kids to play in the meadow, along (and in—bring dry clothes or plan to use our dryer) the creek. Non-aggressive dogs (cannot chase beef cattle! or disturb other guests and their dogs) … are welcome. The place is magic for children. We know. We were children here ourselves.
